The CW’s superheroine Mari McCabe, akaVixen, is getting a live action debut next month whenMegalyn E.K.(nee Megalyn Echikunwoke), the actress who voices the animated character, will guest star on an episode ofArrow. But that’s just the begining for the CW Seed headliner. At yesterday’s TCA panel, CW PresidentMark Pedowitzconfirmed that, in addition to her live action appearance,Vixenwill return for a second season on the network’s streaming website.

Pedowitz went on to say that CW Seed, which fostered the comedic talents of last night’s Golden Globe winnerRachel Bloom, has always been considered an incubator, or research and development operation, for the network.
Could they be incubating the network’s first superhero series led by a female or a person of color? It’s certainly a possibility. Said Pedowitz, “Hopefully, that character could actually spin itself out, if not, maybe join as one of theLegends [of Tomorrow].“The network doesn’t currently have any plans for any female-led superhero series, but as Pedowitz stated, “at this moment last year,Legendsdidn’t really exist. So time will take its toll.” Pedowitz also praised the network’s roster of female superheroes includingWilla Holland’s Speedy andKatie Cassidy’s Black Canary onArrow,Caity Lotz’s White Canary andCiara Renee’s Hawgirl onLegends of Tomorrow, andDanielle Panabaker’s eventual turn as Killer Frost onThe Flash.

For now,Vixenwill return for its second animated season. The first season followed the hero as she discovered her superpowers – the ability to take on the abilities of any animal through the use of the magical Tantu Totem – and consisted of six five-minute episodes.Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow andGrant Gustin’s The Flash dropped in on Season 1, along withEmily Bett Rickards' Felicity Smoak andCarlos Valdes' Cisco Ramone, and with the CW’s DC universe ever-expanding, further crossovers in the second season are all but guaranteed.
