For nearly 20 years,Screamfans have been waiting for one thing and one thing only — the return ofMatthew Lillard. The actor appeared in the original 1996Wes Craven-helmed feature that started the entire franchise as Stu Macher, one of two Ghostface killers who stalked and terrorizedNeve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. In the years since, fans have continueScream 7d to speculate whether Stu was really killed after taking a TV straight to the dome. Finally, withKevin Williamson’sScream 7, Lillard’s psycho killer will make a comeback in one way or another. His addition to the cast wasannounced back in January, but, according to theFive Nights at Freddy’sstar, that wasn’t the original plan.

While speaking to ComingSoon.net, the actor revealed that, likeDavid Arquette’sreprisal of the deceased Dewey Riley, his return was also meant to be a surprise. “I was definitely not supposed to be announced until the trailer,” Lillard said. Explaining why the plans were shifted, he added,

“But, I think we were all pretty conscious of the fact that once you start saying Scream 7’s shooting, the people are going to start paying attention in the general area, so sneaking me in and sneaking me out would have been very difficult. So, eventually we broke the news ourselves before it got a chance to leak. It is what it is. It’s modern technology and I don’t think anyone was unduly surprised.”

Now, fans just have to wait until February to find out exactly how not only Lillard and Arquette fit into the next installment, but alsoScream 3’s Ghostface,Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger. Like Lillard and Arquette, Foley’s character was also killed-off, so we aren’t fully certain what Williamson has on the docket for Roman, but we’re excited to find out. Lillard has very high hopes for the feedback from viewers, revealing,
