After months of waiting following the cancellation ofThe Acolyte, the nextStar WarsDisney+ show is finally set to premiere tonight. The first two episodes ofSkeleton Crewpremiered earlier this week, and one of the most common questions to go along with any newStar Warsproject is how exactly it fits into the definitive timeline. Since the conclusion of the sequel trilogy,Star Warshas been using Disney+ to fill in the gaps between movies, with projects likeThe Mandalorianbeing set between the original and sequel trilogy, andThe Bad Batchtaking place afterRevenge of the Sith.
During a recent interview with Collider’sSteve Weintraub,Jon WattsandChristopher Fordspoke about whenStar Wars: Skeleton Crewtakes place in the timeline. Ford told Collider, “It’s post-Return of the Jedi." He went on to confirm that it’s set a certain number of years afterward, but he’s playing exactly how many close to the vest. He said:

“Yes [there’s a set number of years], we definitely had an idea going into it. I think because of learning what it’s like having kid actors who age up, we might have some wiggle room in terms of if we do more, and how it’s all going to connect better. […] That’s the behind-the-scenes answer. So, it’s a little bit of we’re not exactly revealing yet.”
Watts chimed in to clarify that, “There’s no moment where it ties in exactly where we can say.” It seems likeStar Wars: Skeleton Crewis set roughly around the same time asThe Mandalorian, which is confirmed to take place five years after the events ofReturn of the Jedi. IfSkeleton Crewis before this, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Din Djarin or Grogu in the upcoming show, considering the two have not yet been united, but if it takes place during the same space of time asThe Mandalorian,Star Warscould be angling up to haveSkeleton Crewcharacters join the larger Filoni-verse and potentially even appear in one the upcomingStar Warsmovies. BothDave FiloniandJon Favreauare producers onSkeleton Crew, meaning it’s certainly impossible to rule out a potential crossover from previously establishedStar WarsDisney+ shows taking place around the same time.

Could ‘Skeleton Crew’ Cross Over With ‘The Mandalorian’?
The Mandalorianhas had two shows spun off of it from characters who first appeared in the show, withThe Book of Boba Fettdropping in 2022 andAhsokadropping last year. Those are the only two other live-action Disney+ shows to exist in the same period asThe Mandalorian, and both have had run-ins with Din Djarin in the past. There is already a lack of Jedi and children in the Mandoverse, except Grogu of course, so Jod Na Nawood and his crew of kids roaming the galaxy could make for great companions for Din Djarin and Grogu in their upcoming feature film.
The first two episodes ofSkeleton Creware available now. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates on the series and watchSkeleton CrewonDisney+.
